Foreigners Hold Record US$59bn Brazil Local Debt

Foreigners owned a record 7.68 percent of Brazil’s internal debt in October. Also in October, the government started levying a 2 percent tax on international investors buying real-denominated bonds and stocks in Brazil.

Non-Brazilian investors held 101.68bn reais (about US$59bn) of Brazilian treasuries in October, from 95.9bn reais in September.
